Health Department Receives 500 Doses of H1N1 Injectable Vaccine
Seeks to Reach Highest At-Risk Children With Doses of Flu Shots
Receives Additional 1,300 Doses of H1N1 FluMist Nasal Vaccine
NASHVILLE, Tenn., October 26, 2009 -- The Metro Public Health Department today received 500 doses of H1N1 influenza injectable vaccine. Health officials are prioritizing the doses to reach Nashville’s highest at-risk children. This is the second shipment of injectable vaccine received in the past week. The Health Department also received 1,300 doses of the H1N1 FluMist nasal spray vaccine.
The Health Department will offer doses of the H1N1 injectable vaccine on Tuesday, October 27 at the Lentz Health Center, 311 23rd Ave. North. The H1N1 flu shot clinic will be open from 7 a.m. – 5:30 p.m. as long as supplies last. The Health Department will offer H1N1 injectable vaccine to the following population:
- Pregnant women,
- Household contacts and caregivers for children younger than 6 months of age,
- Children ages 6 months to 4 years old, and
- Children 5 – 18 years of age who have medical conditions, such as asthma, that put them at higher risk of influenza-related complications.
The Health Department will also offer free H1N1 FluMist nasal spray vaccine from 7 a.m. – 5:30 p.m. on October 27 at the Lentz Health Center. The FluMist is only offered to those ages 2 – 49 years of age, without underlying health conditions, and not pregnant.
No shortage of H1N1 vaccine is expected. However, limited quantities and types of the vaccine come in with each shipment. Health officials will expand access to the H1N1 injectable vaccine in the coming weeks and months to every Metro Nashville Public School and at community flu shot clinics.
The Health Department could potentially receive more than 130,000 doses of H1N1 vaccine in the coming weeks and months.
